My skin has been in the best shape it’s ever been, and I have my current skincare routine to thank. It’s soft, silky, and I rarely break out (although that could be good genes, thanks Mom!) Even my boyfriend has commented how soft my skin feels! And trust me, it’s come after a long and hard research process, testing and evaluating different products… sprays, creams, cleansers, moisturizers, oils, you name it. But I’ve found my secret recipe! Read on to get that good good.
Part One: Morning
I wake up every single day bright eyed and bushy tailed. Lol, okay no I don’t, I look like shit. But then I spend the next 45 minutes or so finding a way to un-look like shit. Some days it works, and some days it doesn’t (what can ya do), but at least I know I have one thing working for me: my skin.
My morning skincare routine is quick and dirty. I am always snoozing, waking up late, and rushing out the door so I need to minimize the number of things I smear on my face. On a typical work day, I wake up around 7:45am. I feed the dog and immediately jump in the shower. While I’m in the shower, I usually use Clinique’s Redness Solutions cleanser, but a couple times a week, I will instead use Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator. I have v Northern European ancestors (Irish, German, Swedish) so I’m pretty white and can get pretty red (due to sunburn, rubbing my face, rosacea, alcohol… you name it). The Clinique cleanser is the only thing I’ve found that truly reduces my redness throughout the day. It’s not perfect, but it keeps my red flareups at bay during a typical day. If I’m drinking, however, that’s another story… I am red from the moment my sweet Tanqueray touches my lips. Anyway.
After I hop out of the shower, I deal with my hair. Once that’s good to go, I focus back on my face. I am so dry that in the ~20 minutes it takes me to deal with my hair, my face completely dries out. To go back to feeling human, I spritz a few sprays of the Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray just to give my skin some LIFE.
Step #2: Ole Henrikson Truth Serum. Ladies, this is a LIFE CHANGER. Its primary ingredient is Vitamin C, so it has a brightening effect on the face, and it really smooths out any fine lines. It helps keep wrinkles in the future and makes my skin so kissably soft. Mostly, it brightens any dark spots, including the dark circles under my eyes! The effect is pretty much immediate.
After my Truth Serum dries, I apply my Laneige Moisture Cream. Laneige is a Korean beauty line that has been working wonders for me for the last year or so. I live in Michigan and it’s January so right now the air (and my skin) are dry AF. This moisturizer is the only thing that keeps my skin hydrated all day, and prevents the ugly dry flakes that I sometimes get on my jawline or near eyebrows. Basically, it’s the miracle worker of my skincare routine. I’ve been searching for this product for 26 years. *insert Rose from Titanic GIF about waiting 84 years*
You might be wondering why I haven’t applied an SPF yet… “Emily, you’re white AF. I know you burn. What’s your deal. Anti-aging. Wrinkles. Sunspots. SunBURN! blah blah blah” Welp ladies, I wear It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream pretty much every day which is SPF 50+! So my SPF comes with my everyday makeup 🙂
With this skincare routine, I’m not afraid to go to work without any makeup at all! It truly is the no makeup look that works best for me!
